Motley – Who We Are
About Motley
Motley is one of Northern California’s first and foremost youth rugby programs, formed in 2007. We field U-10, U-12 and Middle School teams. As a founding member of NorCal Youth Rugby Association, our commitment is to preserve the history and tradition of a sport that creates friendships for life. Many Motley players go on to play rugby at CK McClatchy, Jesuit, Christian Brothers, Rio Americano, El Camino, Kennedy and other High Schools. Many of our players go onto play college rugby, represent us in all-star selections, and have represented the United States of America in International Matches.
In 2020 we shortened our name from Land Park Motley to Motley, and we now roll up to Sacramento Rugby Union, which also holds two other related clubs: Lady Harlequins (middle school and high school girls) and the high school Lions (formerly known as McClatchy High).
Our coaches are certified, referees are certified, and we have a certified medical professional at every match.
We primarily play teams from within the Sacramento Valley and occasionally from the San Francisco Bay Area.
Jerseys are on loan for the season and must be returned. Rugby shorts and socks can be purchased from us on Saturday game days.
We are an inclusive club and our mantra is that everyone is taught safety first, then proper rugby skills and technique. Having fun is mandatory :o)
Practices commence the first Tuesday or Thursday in December, from 3:30 – 5:00PM. Beginning in January, and as daylight permits, we will start practices later in the afternoon. During December we practice on the practice baseball fields just north of the zoo. Beginning early January, and for the remainder of the season, our practice field is next to the golf pro shop in Land Park
If you can’t make registration, or missed it, come on out. We accept players up to mid February.
Bring your cleats, a pair of shorts, a t-shirt and a mouthpiece. Mouthpieces are mandatory.
